DORSET — The September featured artist at the Dorset Public Library will be photographer Tanya Gabriele.

Drawn to abandoned structures, early era architecture and the unusual, she enjoys hiking and has found that nature holds hidden surprises just waiting to be discovered.

The public is invited to meet the photographer at an opening reception Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All works are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.

Gabriele walked into The Center of Photography in Woodstock, New York, on a fall day in 2006. She was there simply to look around but ended up staying for a lecture. That casual visit launched her passion for black and white photography.

The contrast of the tones compels the observer to make time to truly absorb the photograph. Through Gabriele's perspective, a subject is brought to life and details are emphasized that might have been skimmed over with a quick glance.

Gabriele previously was a member of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild and received an honorable mention in 2010 by the International Photography Awards. Her work has been on display at the SVAC and at local shows.

Library hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
