MANCHESTER — Taconic Music will host two events including a concert and a lessons for kids.

Violinists Joana Genova and Heather Braun will perform outdoors on the porch of Southern Vermont Arts Center's Yester House, on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 3 to 4 p.m. The concert is hosted by Taconic Music. Physically-distanced lawn seating for concertgoers will be provided with a rain contingency of holding the concert in the spacious galleries.

Reservations are required and also confer "Member for a Day" standing at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, which will waive admission into SVAC's galleries and extend member discounts in the museum shop and on classes purchased on the day of the concert. Tickets are available at app.arts-people.com/index.php. Seating is limited and masks are required at all times.

Strings for Kids lessons for 2020-21 begin the week of Sept. 14 and end May 17. The fall and winter terms each consist of 11 private lessons, the spring term has four, and the students will have the opportunity to participate in recitals throughout the school year.

Taconic Music launched its SFK program in January 2017 with the goal of offering afterschool violin, viola, and cello instruction for area children ages 5-18 of all levels, and provide financial aid to students who otherwise might not be able to afford lessons.

All teachers are professionally trained musicians with extensive teaching and performing experience: Deanna Baasch (violin), Vesela French (violin and viola), Joana Genova (violin), Ariel Rudiakov (viola), Fran ois S cordel, (violin) and Jared Shapiro (cello).

Due to COVID-19 health guidelines, the current year's protocol will be to have teachers and parents determine their preference for virtual or in-person lessons, with the latter involving extra safety precautions.
