Second annual Vermont Trailfest set for next Saturday

MANCHESTER — A celebration of Manchester's first year as an official Appalachian Trail Community is planned for next weekend.

The second annual Vermont Trailfest will be held at Dana M. Thompson Memorial Park from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, and the community is invited.

A wide variety of fun outdoor activities geared for 2nd -8th grade students and their families are planned, as well as a visit from Smokey the Bear. The U.S Forest Service, the Green Mountain Club, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the Mountain Goat, Equinox Preservation Trust, and the Appalachian Long Distance Hiking Association will all be attending and presenting information and activities at the event.

Each participant will receive a passport and a celebratory ice cream cone as a prize for completing the outdoor activity loop. meet Smokey the Bear and sample the educational
