Romo voted athlete of the week

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Union High School varsity girls lacrosse player Olivia Romo received 102 votes to earn Reformer Athlete of the Week honors for April 15-21.

She was nominated after intercepting a clearing pass by the Northampton goalie, outracing a defender, and scoring the game-winning goal in overtime during an 11-10 victory for the Colonels.

"Go Romo!!" wrote Tanya Balsley on her ballot.

Romo's prize is a night of free Cosmic Bowling for two at Brattleboro Bowl, which takes place Friday and Saturday evenings from 9-11.

The veteran catcher smacked three hits and also drove in three runs when the Brattleboro Union High School varsity softball team blanked Springfield 21-0. She then had a pair of hits versus Hartford, before finishing the week with three hits and a couple of RBI against Otter Valley.

The Twin Valley varsity baseball player went 3-for-4 at the plate during a 10-6 loss to Springfield in the season opener.

During a 17-12 decision over West Rutland, the Leland & Gray softball slugger went 4-for-4 at the dish, including a double and a homer, drove in five runs, and crossed the plate four times.

The first baseman made some nice snags and stretches to be in on 15 of the Bellows Falls varsity softball team's 21 outs during a loss to Hartford.
