Principal's contract not renewed

DANBY - The Union District #23 School Board voted unanimously to not renew the employment contract of long-serving Currier Principal Helen Richards-Peelle last week after a lengthy deliberation in executive session.

"It was a difficult decision," said Union District #23 Chairman Herbert Ogden. "Ms. Richards-Peelle's dedication to the our students, school, and communities has been exemplary, but the Board felt strongly it was time for a change. Being a school principal is a very challenging job, and I think although Ms. Richards-Peelle's leadership has been very steady over the last ten years, at some point you have to acknowledge a leader can only take an organization so far."

BRSU Superintendent Dan French agreed.

"Helen is an exceptional instruction leader," he said. "I think the district arrived at a point, however, where a change in leadership was necessary." Ms. Richard-Peelle's contract will expire on June 30, 2014. The Board will begin a search for her replacement immediately.
