PAWLET — A local man was killed July 10 when his ATV rolled down a hill near his home, according to Vermont State Police.

Police said Richard Morey, 72, went for a ride earlier in the day on his 2003 Arctic Cat ATV in the woods near his home on Vermont Route 30.

When Morey didn't return home, police were called at about 11:30 p.m. along with the Pawlet Fire Department.

Member of the Pawlet Fire Department began a search on ATVs and quickly located the crash scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, police believe Morey had lost control of the ATV and rolled it down an embankment.
