Pair from BBA named U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans

MANCHESTER — A pair of Burr and Burton girls lacrosse players were named as U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans this week.

BBA's Shayla Heekin, a newly-graduated attacker and junior Olivia Watanabe, a midfielder and draw specialist, were two of four players from Vermont chosen. The others included Brattleboro's Megan Ayotte, a senior, and Middlebury senior goalie Raven Payne.

Heekin was BBA's top offensive threat in 2018, becoming the first girl in program history to tally more than 100 points in a single season.

She scored seven goals against Brattleboro and Woodstock and led the team in goals in a good portion of their games. She had a goal-to-assist ratio of 2-to-1 and finished her Bulldogs' career as the program's all-time points leader and assists leader.

Watanabe scored more than 40 goals this season, including six against Essex in a postseason game.
