LTS hosts hunger banquet fundraiser

Posted

DORSET — The Long Trail School UNICEF Club will again hosts its Oxfam America Hunger Banquet at 6 p.m., Jan. 31 on the LTS campus.

The Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a fundraiser and interactive community event designed to educate and bring the realities of food inequality that exists in the world to light.

During the evening, guests will experience the realities of hunger and poverty issues.

At the event, guests will draw a ticket upon arrival.

Through random draw, the person will be assigned to a high-, middle-, or low-income group based on the latest statistics about global poverty.

The groups are then served a meal, with members of the high-income group being served a nutritious meal and low-income members getting only minimal food.

The event is a metaphor for how food and other resourcs are inequitably distributed in the world.

Throughout the evening, a master of ceremonies will share facts and stories about real-life inequality and invite guests to discuss their experiences.

The event is free of charge, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Oxfam organization to fight poverty.
