Letter: Thanks for the help with meal donation
To the editor:Many thanks to Andrea and Ray at the Station Restaurant in Pawlet, who provided 20 hot, home-made dinners of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables (enough for two or more dinners) at minimal cost. Off we flew at 3:30 p.m. on a snowy Christmas Eve delivering the dinners and sweet deserts made by Sandi Hedman, while being serenaded by four carolers and "Ho, Ho, Ho's" by Chris Lima to unsuspecting folks. We quickly visited numerous folks in the Pawlet, Dorset, East Dorset and South Dorset areas; most who lived alone and sometimes forgotten: elderly, disabled, needy, blind and in-home hospice. Four were in their nineties: 90, 92, 98 and 99!I wish you could have seen their faces and occasional tears. One severe stroke victim actually sang a few words. Everyone also received Christmas cards; seven found gift-certificates from Price Chopper and Shaws, courtesy of the stores. This deed afforded the carolers and me opportunity to bring cheer to our most appreciating neighbors. I had a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers; I am grateful and thank you all.At the Station Restaurant, Ray and his wife said they wanted to do this again next year and were willing to make dinners to be given out during the year if needed.I am elated to tell you, they gave out free Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to any of our veterans who asked. This year was my sixth and third year with carolers. Next Christmas Eve is already in the planning.Again, I am very grateful to all.Garry DuFourNorth Rupert
