Letter: Support for Seth and Kathleen in House race
To the Editor:
"The opportunity to participate fully in our constitutional democracy is," in the words of Martin Luther King Jr., "the chance to complete ourselves. Our best hope for human fulfillment lies in supporting and nurturing the political system that has been bequeathed to us: our constitutional democracy."
We are fortunate to live in a small community and state where our voices are represented by elected officials who are our neighbors. Our elected officials need to be able to guide us in fulfilling our civic responsibilities and help us engage with the important issues of our times.
In their recent letter to the editor, Kathleen James and Seth Bongartz expressed their commitment and support to issues of social justice in a thoughtful way.
Kathleen's dedication to representing our district over the past two years is punctuated with hard work and open communication with her constituents. In Montpelier, she has gained the respect of colleagues across all parties and we are confident her influence and expertise will deepen with her continued presence in the State House.
Seth has a long history of working hard and getting things done at the local and state levels — creating collaborative projects that move Vermont forward. His work with young adults in our community will be an inspiration to engage more of them in the democratic process. We are facing a very difficult period of time due to the Covid-19 crisis. The future of our economy and the health of our community will be impacted by the decisions being made now.
Seth and Kathleen have long histories of caring deeply about the communities they seek to serve and will bring that passion to rebuilding our economy in a way that focuses on Main Street while looking toward the future.
We hope that you will take your civic responsibility seriously. Study the candidates and the issues and exercise your right to vote.
