To the Editor:On a hopeful spring day last May we gathered in Kathleen James' living room, eager to learn about her campaign. Kathleen had invited us, a group of high school students, to hear our views on what we felt were the most pressing issues in the state of Vermont. As we each shared what we were passionate about (which ranged from environmental justice, to raising the minimum wage, to access to education and health reform), Kathleen listened intently, taking notes. Most of us in Kathleen's living room were not even of legal voting age yet, but Kathleen cared deeply about our concerns and what we had to say.Kathleen James has always been there for the students of Manchester, whether she is speaking on an International Women's Day panel at BBA, or supporting a bus trip down to Washington D.C. for March for Our Lives. Kathleen listens to us and helps us to make change in our community. This is why we decided to support her candidacy. This is why we canvassed for her and volunteered at events throughout the summer. We know that, if elected, Kathleen will continue to listen intently to us and all those in our community. She is someone who will passionately advocate for a more politically, socially, economically, and environmentally just Vermont. Many of us will be 18 by November 6, voting for the very first time in the midterm elections: we hope to see you all at the polls, participating in our democracy!Trinity Delano, Claire Reid, Mathew Scott, and Isabelle Desroches
