Letter: Seeking signatures for change in town government

To the Editor:

Attention all citizens of Bennington and North Bennington interested in a mayoral form of government who would like to sign a petition to include the opportunity to vote for a change in March: Please be advised a group of residents are planning to have an area set up at the fire house on Tuesday, Oct. 10. A tent will be on site where you may sign the petition to have your voice recognized and heard.

It has been 14 years since the last time this issue came up for a vote. It has never been clearer, we need a change of our town government. A change to a mayoral form of government willing to be held accountable to the residents and taxpayers in meeting the needs of our community. A mayoral form of government will afford all residents the equality they so richly deserve. A mayoral form of government will put the power back in the hands of the people.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday. If you would like to assist in obtaining petition signatures, please feel free to call Bill Stewart (518-258-4924) or Mike Bethel (802-442-9196).

William Stewart
