Letter: Myerson clarifies letter on campaign finance

To the Editor:

I am writing to correct certain facts contained in my letter to the editor of last week, regarding Representatives Brian Keefe and Cynthia Browning, which turned out to be wrong.

I wrote that neither incumbent had filed any 2018 public financial disclosure forms with the Vermont Secretary of State, as required by Vermont Campaign Ethics Guidelines. This was based on repeated visits to the Vermont Secretary of State website before, during, and even after I submitted my letter, as well as direct contact with the elections administrator for the Secretary of State.

Unfortunately, the Secretary of State's website did not reflect that Reps. Keefe and Representative Browning had made the necessary financial disclosure statements when they filed their campaign paperwork with the Manchester Town Clerk on May 29th. While our Town Clerk duly provided those filings to the Secretary of State, for reasons unknown the materials were not posted on the Secretary of State website by the date of my letter, September 17th.

Therefore, to the extent my Letter to the Editor was based upon that inaccurate information, it was incorrect, and I take responsibility for those inaccurate statements.

Bradley Myerson
