Letter: Library director thanks community
To the editor:Dear members of the Manchester community. On behalf of the board and staff of the Manchester Community Library, I would like to thank you for voting to approve our 2020 budget. As the new executive director of the library, I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and enthusiasm for this very special place. I have quickly seen the myriad of ways in which the library functions as the hub of community life. Few places exist that welcome in equal measure the oldest of old and the youngest of young. There are even fewer that offer free access to technology, diverse programming and Internet connectivity. As many of you know, last year the library sponsored over 200 adult and 100 children's programs. We have nearly 90 volunteers who help our professional staff in prepping for events, shelving books and preparing food. Over 2,400 Manchester adults have active library memberships and over 1,200 nonresidents pay their fair share for memberships through an annual nonresident fee. Without a doubt, our best programming and most innovative work have been the result of input from community members. I look forward to meeting more of you, my neighbors, in the coming months. There is much I can learn from your feedback. In the meantime, please know the library values your ongoing support — it sustains our wonderful work.J.
