To the Editor:I am a relatively new U.S. citizen. After more than forty years in this country as an "alien" (an immigrant with a green card) I cast my first vote in 2016. I am anxious to cast my vote this November with a great enthusiasm—for Kathleen James! She is running for the state legislature to represent Bennington-4 (Manchester, Arlington, Sunderland and Sandgate).I have known Kathleen since first moving to Manchester and my admiration for her has never waned. All along I appreciated her forthrightness, her dedication to her daughters, her desire to seek truthful answers to her questions, her work ethics, her enthusiasm to be involved in community life, and her positive, contagious energy. I share Kathleen's values for tolerance, compassion, and for environmental and social justice. With Kathleen James in Montpelier next year, I know I will be represented by someone who cares for all Vermonters. She will be transparent, seek to do what is best for the good of all. She will listen and engage in dialogue with her constituents, will question the issues thoroughly, and will not compromise her own integrity for political gain. Kathleen will stand by what she promised voters. As a legislator, we'll also know where she stands and how she is voting. She is committed to holding regular office hours across the district, publishing a regular newsletter, submitting updates to the local papers, and using social media to keep constituents informed. We won't have to wonder how our legislator is voting, or research the records in a database. We'll know!Carol Berry Manchester
