Letter: History trivia night features free family fun

To the Editor:On June 18, the Manchester Historical Society and Manchester Community Library teamed up to sponsor another Vermont History Trivia Night. This family-friendly free event was a lot of fun, entertaining more than 40 people. Our thanks go to the Vermont Historical Society, who shared five rounds of trivia questions, and to MHS Curator Shawn Harrington, who supplied the group with local history questions.Vermont literature, sports, catamounts and other topics were the focus of some rounds, but the local round with questions about Manchester Depot was the most engaging for the group. For example, did you know that the current Tutorial Center building was the Merriman schoolhouse, constructed in 1912 for less than $10,000?It was an informative and amusing night as six teams and our audience wrestled with answers to 47 questions. We greatly appreciate the following businesses who contributed prizes to be awarded to the winners of each round: Mother Myrick's, Shetland Shortbread, Northshire Bookstore, Above All Vermont and Orvis. Please brush off your state and local history knowledge and join us for another Vermont History Trivia Night next winter!Kim Rizio, Manchester Historical SocietyCindy Waters, Manchester Community Library
