To the Editor:The United States of America is at a crossroads. I write Americas intentionally in the plural because we are losing the fabric of what keeps and holds us together. The notion of E pluribus unum, out of many, one, the motto of our country has become frayed since the 2016 election. There are many factors as to why this is happening. One of them is a sense that the system is broken and needs fixing. This includes our local, state, and national institutions. We need new leadership beginning on the local level. That is why I am supporting Kathleen James, running for the Vermont House of Representatives. And that is why I am supporting Arnie Gottlieb running for the Bennington County State's Attorney. Individually they both have served our community professionally as well as numerous ways volunteering over the years. More important Kathleen and Arnie are dedicated and committed to make two of the most important institutions of our communities, the legislature and our criminal justice system, respond in ways that are more equitable and fair for all. These times require citizens like Arnie and Kathleen to be given the chance to set our ship back on course.Michael M. CohenManchester
