Foundation announces memorial event

MANCHESTER - The Claude Fredericks Foundation in Pawlet has announced a memorial event, 'Celebrating the Life of Claude Fredericks,' Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Arkell Pavilion at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester. Fredericks was a resident of Pawlet from 1947 until his death in January 2013. Born in 1923, he was a noted dramatist, poet, printer, and much-loved professor of Greek, Italian, and Japanese literature at Bennington College from 1961 to 1993. The mission of The Claude Fredericks Foundation is to publish the vast "Journal Of Claude Fredericks." At 65,000 pages it is a record of a life lived in 20th century America and to preserve The Claude Fredericks Homestead in Pawlet, as a Research Library and Retreat Center.
