Author Q&A: "Opium" co-authors David Blistein and Dr. John Halpern speak at a benefit for Groundworks Collaborative and Next Stage Arts Project at 7:30 p.m. at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill, Putney. Tickets on a sliding scale $5-$25, available at the door or nextstagearts.org.

A Christmas Carol: The Dorset Players present Dickens' holiday classic the weekends of Dec. 6 to 8 and Dec. 13 to 15 at the Dorset Playhouse. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 to 7 and 13 to 14, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 and 15. Tickets are $18 for adults (members $15) and $8 for ages 6 to 14. Children ages 5 and younger are admitted free with a ticketed adult.

Pumpkintown: Grammy nominee Tim Eriksen is joined by Peter Irvine and Susan Brearey at 8 p.m. Friday at Hooker-Dunham Theater, 139 Main St., Brattleboro in a down-home multimedia presentation featuring ballads, gospel songs, guitar, banjo and fiddle tunes, accompanied by magic lantern projections, all relaying the curious history of an imaginary New England village.

Family Day: Bennington Museum offers reduced admission of $3 on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kids bringing personal care item or non-perishable food item for Bennington County Coalition for the Homeless are admitted free. Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 1 to 3 p.m. or create a "Memory Bear" with VNA and Hospice of the Southwest Region from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lighted Tractor Parade: Farm equipment plus generators plus holiday lights plus sense of humor equals cheerful seasonal spectacle in downtown Manchester at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, with parade route through the historic downtown district.
