MANCHESTER — A grassroots film festival in Manchester this September is seeking entries.

Village Picture Shows will host the inaugural Equinox Mountain Film Festival Sept. 21-22.

The festival calls on both beginner and seasoned filmmakers to submit their short films to one of the two available categories. Category one will accept films with a minimum length of 8 minutes and a maximum of 15, while Category two is designed for shorter films, with a maximum of 5 minutes and no minimum.

"It is only fitting that we participate in and are highly enthusiastic about projects like the Equinox Film Festival, which we hope will not only be greatly successful this year but will also be around for many years to come," said Michael Ellenbogen, owner of the theater.

The deadline for submissions is July 31. The notification date is Sept. 1 and the festival will run Sept. 21-22.

All shortlisted applicants will be screened on the first day of the festival and will receive passes to the event.

The cash prize for category one will be $750 and $500 for category two with one people's choice award being selected for a $250 cash prize.

"[We are] really excited to get under way with the Equinox Mountain Environmental Film Festival," said Ross Ferrier, one of the festival's judges. "Sharing projects with like-minded filmmakers, especially at grass-roots level, is so beneficial for growing perspective."
