MANCHESTER

BBA student leads blood drive

Join Burr and Burton Academy student Phoenix Heleba in donating blood Jan. 2 and you could be helping Heleba earn a scholarship as well.

A community blood drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester.

With seasonal illnesses, inclement weather, holidays and other factors, winter can be an especially challenging time to collect enough blood to meet patient needs. The winter often results in a decline in the number of blood donors who come out to give.

By helping hospital patients in need, donors can also help Heleba with a chance to earn a scholarship through the American Red Cross Leaders Save

Lives program.

To make an appointment or to learn more, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor

App, visit www.RedCrossBlood.org or call 800-RED-CROSS.

Completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire found at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass is encouraged to help speed up the donation process. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Individuals who are 16 with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.
