Bike Club releases detailed bike map

MANCHESTER - Manchester and the Mountains Bike Club has just released the region's first-ever bike map and guide that details a variety of routes popular among road riders in southwestern Vermont.

The Manchester based bike club has identified and laid out routes that originate in Manchester and other area tourist centers such as Dorset, Londonderry, Weston and Stratton, and down into Jamaica and Townshend.

The routes are described using the Garmin friendly "Ride with GPS," and a number of the rides are already posted on the web site. The routes are marked on a road map along with a ride profile noting road gradients, degree of difficulty and the length of the ride. The rides are downloadable to a GPS device or via a QR code to a smart phone.

The maps are available for purchase for $5 on the local bike club's web site, www.mmbc. us. They are also available at the Manchester and the Mountains Chamber of Commerce, as well as shops and inns around the area. Bike club members will receive one map as a member benefit; membership signup is available on their web site.

The marketing efforts to put the maps in the hands of a number of large bike clubs in southern New England and the New York metro area has already been initiated.

The new Manchester Bike Task Force, formed as a result of the Manchester 2020 project this spring, is helping to promote this valuable new tool for resident and visiting bike enthusiasts.

"When we learned at our first meeting that the local bike club was about to print a very complete route map of area rides, we thought it would make the perfect anchor for future committee activities," said Committee chair Ellen Ecker Ogden. "It is an excellent guide that will go a long way to promoting the many outstanding cycling opportunities in the region."

The Manchester Bike Task Force is also focusing attention on new bike rack placements around Manchester, bike safety and special events, and working with local and state authorities to incorporate bike lane striping and bike-friendly improvements on key roads in the region.

The Manchester and the Mountains Bike Club's mission is to promote road and mountain biking in southwestern Vermont.
