BBA alumna places second in Vt. AM
DORSET — Julia Dapron finished in second place at the Vermont Women's Amateur Golf Championship on Wednesday. The Dorset native was playing on her home course, the Dorset Field Club.
Dapron was one of 64 members to take part in the tournament, and after two rounds, was tied with Andrea Brown of Lakeside Golf Club at a combined score of 14 over-par. The tournament began on Monday, and play was cancelled on Tuesday due to the weather conditions. That forced the typical three-round tournament down to two rounds total.
Dapron shot a 79 in both rounds, while Brown shot a 78 in round one and 80 in round two.
The tie forced a three-hole playoff. The two golfers were still even after that. It would take another two holes before the winner was decided. Brown beat Dapron on the fifth playoff hole, clinching her victory.
This was Dapron's first year competing in the women's division. She was the junior division winner during the 2019 Vermont Amateur Golf Championship.
Dapron competed on the golf team during her time at Burr and Burton Academy, winning three individual state titles for the Bulldogs. She competed in regionals all four years of her high school career, and even competed in nationals during her senior year.
Dapron is a member of the Stonehill College women's golf team. She is a rising sophomore.
Elizabeth Walker of Dorset Field Club shot a combined 30 above-par, finishing in 13th for the tournament. Lesley Brodie of Dorset Field Club placed 21st with a score of 38 over-par.
Trisha Mahar of Mount Anthony Country Club placed 23rd with a score of plus-38.
Sue Rees of Manchester Country Club placed 52nd, shooting a 62-over par.
Mia Politano took home the victory in the junior division, shooting a combined 20 over-par. Alyssa Gallo of Manchester Country Club finished fourth, shooting a plus-64 for the tournament.
