The Arlington Select Board approved a modified contract with the Bennington County Sheriff's Department at its meeting Monday evening.

The board did not set a number of hours in the contact but modified the language of the contract so that the number of hours can be changed with 15-days notice.

That gives the town more control so, during busy times, they can request more hours or reduce hours during slow months.

The rate is unchanged at $45 per hour for deputy, cruiser and mileage.

Board member Matthew Bykowski edited the current contract and new town administrator Nick Zaiak negotiated changes with the BCSD.

The current contract expires June 30.

Bykowski said that after analyzing what the town was getting for its $44,000 for the current year, he didn't think the contract was worth the cost. But, he said the changes negotiated made him feel better about it.

" I think it’s a waste of money," Bykowski said. "I’m more comfortable with this contract. I feel better about it."
