BBA to offer winter concert

The Burr and Burton Academy music program is gearing up to offer its first live concert since March of 2020.

In all, 60 musicians from the Burr and Burton Academy instrumental and vocal music ensembles will perform the works of John Williams, Pat Metheny, William Billings, Duke Ellington, and some additional jazz standards.

Under the direction of Neil Freebern, Julie Freebern and David Domenickm our ensembles explore a wide range of repertoire and will conclude with a rousing rendition of Chicago’s Greatest Hits.

The concert will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, in the Riley Center for the Arts at BBA.

Audience members will be required to wear masks while inside the Riley Center.

Sunderland to hold special meeting

The Sunderland Select Board will be holding a special meeting at the Town Hall to hear ideas from the community about their ideas for American Rescue Plan Act funding.

The town wants to know how the ARPA money the town will receive can be best used, or how whether it can best be invested.

The town is anticipating receiving nearly $300,000 when all the money is received. Some of it has already arrived and is being held in a municipal bank account. The Board has discussed ARPA funds at a couple of recent meetings, and has also received some ideas from neighboring towns with an eye toward partnering with them on projects that would benefit all the towns involved.

There are restrictions on how the money can be spent. Its uses are basically limited to offsetting unusual expenditures due to the COVID-19 emergency, public health impacts, providing premium pay to essential workers, water systems, broadband and replacing lost revenues.

Town Hall is located off Sunderland Hill Road on 104 Mountain View Road. If you are unable to attend in person, but have a suggestion you would like to submit, please email it to:
