According to Warren Foster, the coordinator for District Environmental Commission No. 8, the application lacked enough information on how the history of the site would be preserved for the public.
The application was filed by 3835 Main Street LLC, a development firm based in Palm Beach, Fla. The company is the current owner of the property occupied by the former inn, which is located on Main Street in Manchester Village.
Because the total demolition of a listed historic site is an adverse effect, the application must meet certain criteria. According to the application, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and records indicate that that structure has been vacant since 2008. Previous reports done in past years concluded that the building was not viable for restoration and that it should be razed.
According to Foster, there are no future plans for the site if the building gets demolished.
"It has been more than a week and I have not received an updated application for the project," he said.
Ellis Speath, of Ellis Speath Engineering LLC, the contact person listed on the application for the project, was unable to be reached for comment as of press time.
According to the application, the total cost of the project would be $84,800. This includes $10,000
Landscaping will consist of backfilling the foundation site, spreading top soil, and seeding and mulching the disturbed area once, and if, the demolition has occurred, according to the permit application.
The Village Country Inn site sits on a 1.5 acre parcel of land on the west side of Main Street and also includes a 1 acre track directly across the street on the east side of Main Street. The property is about a quarter of a mile north of the Equinox Resort.
In April of 2012 the Manchester Village Development Review Board denied an application by Manchester Hotel Associates LLC to build three-story, 80-room Hampton Inn in a unanimous vote. No appeal of that decision was filed.
