Wounded Warrior golf outing a success

To the Editor:

The 2013 Vermont Wounded Warriors Golf Tournament, held on Sept. 18, at the Manchester Country Club was a huge success. And it was so because of the message, the messengers and the generous support of the businesses and individuals who recognized the importance of the mission. Indeed our county is blessed with the generosity of local businesses and folks who contributed to the effort -- as sponsors, tee sign donors, as well as others, who gave so much In-Kind donations.

Thirty one Wounded Warriors were able to play a round of golf, have lunch and dinner, receive a beautiful jacket, shirt, hat and challenge coin because of the generosity of so many.

Furthermore, they and the other 135 guests for dinner, were able to enjoy the performance by the New York City-based USO/Liberty Bells and have their photo taken while standing next to Bennington's Rita Dee's, beautiful life- size drift wood sculptured "Patriot Horse."

The net proceeds from this year's event, totaling $37,000 will be distributed to the Purple Hearts Reunited, The Rutland Dodge House, The Bennington Veterans Outreach Center and to the Vermont Veterans Home - Resident Activity Fund.

On behalf of the Committee and all who played a part in this year's event you have our deepest thanks and gratitude for without such help, it would have not had been the success that it was.

Don Keelan

Chairman, Vermont Wounded Warriors Golf Tournament
