Vote for Goodwin

To the Editor:

Over the next few years, the Vermont Legislature will be addressing a number of major issues: healthcare funding, tax changes, and education finance. And if that's not enough, we are facing a significant budget gap next year.

As a member of the House Healthcare Committee, I am particularly focused on healthcare reform. This January, the Legislature will be in receipt of a report that outlines recommendations for how we will fund the proposed single-payer /universal healthcare system, which is estimated to cost upwards of $5 billion a year and expected to impact every many, woman, and child in Vermont. That report will start a conversation about what new taxes and other revenues will be necessary to fund such an ambitious undertaking. It's a conversation that starts in January, and one that will likely continue for several years.

Given the magnitude of the issues at stake, particularly healthcare funding, it is critical that we have legislators who understand the issues, and are prepared with the relevant experience and skills.

In my view, Tim Goodwin is the clear choice to succeed Rep. Oliver Olsen to represent the people of Jamaica, Londonderry, Stratton, Weston, and Winhall. With deep roots in the area and decades of experience serving his community in a variety of capacities - in public office and as a volunteer for numerous local organizations - Tim clearly understands the needs of his community. As a CPA with years of experience in government finance, Tim has a lot of offer the Legislature, and will be a real asset to his community and Vermont as a whole.

If you live in Jamaica, Londonderry, Stratton, Weston, or Winhall, I would urge you to vote for Tim Goodwin to be your next State Representative.

Rep. Patti Komline
