VFW Auxiliary announces art contest


MANCHESTER >> VFW Auxiliary #6471 has announced the kick-off of their annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. Local students in grades 9-12 have an opportunity to compete for $21,000 in national scholarships and a trip to the 2016 VFW Auxiliary National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Students must submit an original piece of artwork on paper or canvas. Water color,pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink or oil may be used. Digital art is not accepted. The entry must have been done during the 2015-16 school year and must include a teacher's signature.

Students begin at the local level, and the first-place winner from each auxiliary advances to District competition with the district winners advancing to the state competition. State first-place winners compete for their share of $21,000 in national awards, with the national first-place winner receiving a $10,000 scholarship and a two-night trip (including airfare and lodging to attend the VFW Auxiliary national convention.
