Two Green Mountain Club hikes on Aug. 25
The YAC hike is a "back to school" hike to Little Rock Pond on the Long Trail, before everyone has to head back to school. This four mile round trip hike has less than 350 feet elevation change and is a very accessible hike for families with young hikers.
Those planning to participate should bring bug spray, water, and lunch. Those planning to attend shold meet at the Long Trail parking lot on FR 10. From Route 7 in Danby go east on Brooklyn Road through Mt Tabor - this becomes FR10 - and go approximately 3.5 miles to the Long Trail/Appalachian Trail paved parking lot on the south side. Meet there at 9:30 a.m. and expect to be back there at about 1p.m. Please RSVP to Jason Pergament at email@example.com. Dave Ratti will lead hike for adults through the trail less Aiken Wilderness, a part of the Green Mountain National Forest. Those planning to participate should meet at Shaw's in Manchester Center at 8 a.m. to carpool to the starting point on Route 9 or meet on Route 9 at a big snowmobile parking lot at 9:30 a.m.
Those planning to attend should contact Ratti for directions to this meeting point. Participants will hike via map and compass to a number of infesting points in this wilderness, planning to be back at the cars at about 3:30 p.m. and back in Manchester Center by 5 p.m.
