Tree Pruning demonstration at Hildene

MANCHESTER - Hildene will host an apple tree pruning demonstration by local arborist Joe Blair on Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The U.V.M. Extension Service suggests that this is the best time of year for pruning fruit trees so the timing is opportune.

Blair will focus on two forms of pruning: corrective pruning for ornamentals and pruning to increase productivity for apple-bearing trees.

The arborist will demonstrate these techniques on one of the estate's oldest trees, as well as some of its youngest, in the Apple Tree Allee. This Hildene horticultural program is free and open to the public. Check in is at the Welcome Center.

Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To learn more about the pruning program call Stephanie at 802-367-7960 or email
