SVMC Psychiatry welcomes Dr. Linda Jasperse
"I'm really looking forward to joining the Bennington community," said Dr. Jasperse. "I will be working alongside some wonderful primary care physicians in providing another element of medical care to the community. I look forward to getting to know my colleagues and patients."
Dr. Jasperse received her medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and Bayshore, N.Y. She completed her residency in psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems in Richmond, Va., and she is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Before attending medical school, Dr. Jasperse was employed in various professional positions for Shell Oil Companies and worked in a research laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Most recently, she was a psychiatric hospitalist doing consultative work at Health First hospitals in Melbourne and Palm Bay, Florida.
"I was drawn by the vision of care presented by SVMC," stated Dr. Jasperse. "It is important to me that I get to know my patients and try to understand their struggles and what their strengths are," she added, "even if I only get to see them for a short time. That way, I can help them build on those strengths so they can improve their overall well-being."
Dr. Jasperse enjoys physical fitness and running. This year, she participated in the Old Mutual Two Oceans half marathon in Cape Town, South Africa. As part of team "Run for Africa," she helped raise funds for a charity that supports orphans of the AIDS epidemic.
"I enjoy doing things that challenge me," she said, "and have a lot fun doing them. Run for Africa took me on a course that spans the distance between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. It was a thrill to take part in that race."
Dr. Jasperse will see patients referred by their primary care physicians. Her office will be at SVMC Psychiatry in suite 209 of the Medical Office Building at 140 Hospital Drive in Bennington. To make an appointment with her, your primary care physician can call (802) 442-8165.
