SVMC Pediatrics welcomes Emily Rice

BENNINGTON - SVMC Pediatrics recently welcomed Physician Assistant Emily Rice to the practice. Rice, a native of Bennington, loves living in the area and being involved in the lives of many of the community's children.

"I went into medicine because it is a helping profession," said Rice. "I love the contact I have with my patients and their families. There's something about every age of child that brightens my day when I'm at work."

Rice received a bachelor of science in medical biology from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, and a Bachelor of Science in Physician's Assistant Studies from Marywood University in Scranton, Penn. She completed her masters of science in Physician's Assistant Studies at A.T. Still University in Phoenix, Ariz.

Rice has worked as a physician's assistant for more than 12 years. Most recently, she was a physician's assistant at Women's and Children's Services in Bennington and at Brookside Pediatrics in Bennington before that.

"It is a real pleasure for me to interact with children as they grow into adulthood," said Rice. "I enjoy the conversations I am able to have with them. I try to help them make sense of what they're going through physically and mentally as they grow older."

Rice also enjoys the outdoors and physical activities such as cycling, swimming, and hiking. "This is a great town to live in," she stated. "I have family here and really enjoy the activities there are to do around Bennington and in the surrounding areas." Rice's husband, Bob, is an X-ray technician and they have two children, Owen, 13, and Natalie, 7.

Rice joins Drs. Mann, Thwing, and Luloff at SVMC Pediatrics in suite 210 of the Medical Office Building at 140 Hospital Drive in Bennington. To make an appointment at SVMC Pediatrics, call (802) 447-3930.

SVMC Pediatrics and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center are part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), an integrated health system providing care for patients in Bennington and Windham Counties in Vermont, Rensselaer and Washington Counties in New York, and Berkshire County in Massachusetts.
