SVHC Dermatology to hold free skin cancer screening

BENNINGTON - Southwestern Vermont Medical Center's Dermatology will hold a free skin cancer and melanoma screening on Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. All are welcome; however, the screening is intended to assist area residents with no insurance or high-deductible insurance plans.

"If caught early, skin cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer," explained Dr. Lixia Ellis, a dermatologist at SVMC. "Left undetected, though, melanoma can spread rapidly and be deadly."

Ellis and the staff at SVMC Dermatology are taking appointments for a free skin cancer screening on Saturday, Sept. 13. Ellis will conduct the screenings in her office in Suite 107 of the Medical Office Building at 140 Hospital Drive on the SVMC campus in Bennington.

Appointments are required for this free screening. To make an appointment call 802-447-5544 on these dates and times, Thursday, Sept. 4, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 5, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, Sept 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The screening is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center, the American Academy of Dermatology, and SVMC Dermatology with Ellis donating her time.
