SVAC to offer summer camp program
MANCHESTER >> The Southern Vermont Arts Center's Summer Camp schedule is available now on their website and in brochures around town. Registration has begun with deadlines occurring one week before each camp. Camps will run from June to August this year and will offer a many creative opportunities for a variety of age groups.
The Lost Art, instructed by Heather Thomas, SVAC Events Coordinator and Owner of The Gold Trout, will focus on letter writing correspondence, pairing campers together to be pen-pals and will also engage them in calligraphy and graffiti with plenty of outdoor exploration. This camp is for grades 3 - 6, and will run June 20 - 24 in Studio II of the Hay Madeira Education Center.
Gary Meitrott, Artistic Director of Shakespeare on Main, returns this summer, bringing his extensive knowledge of the stage and joy of drama education to teens in his camp, School of Outrageous Shakespeare, running June 27 - July 1 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. in the Arkell Pavilion.
Drama Play, another returning theater camp but for grades 1-5 will run for the weeks of July 5-8 and July 11-15 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. in the Arkell Pavilion. Instructor Cynthia Logan provides a "no right or wrong" atmosphere for campers to explore their imaginations and creativity.
Children's Book Illustrator, Christine Mix, will be instructing a Cartoon & Illustration camp for grades 5-8, July 15-18 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in Studio II of the Hay Madeira Education Center. Campers will learn the process and have the opportunity to create their own illustrated stories, comics, or graphic novels.
Barbara Childs, art teacher at Currier Memorial School, returns this summer to instruct two August camps, Create with Clay, and Art & Nature. Campers will build a variety of projects in Create with Clay while learning the important role the medium has played in art around the world and through time, Aug. 1-5, from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Art & Nature will focus on bringing the outdoors into the studio to inspire visual art, Aug. 8-12 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Both camps are for grades 1-4 and will be held in Studio I of the Hay Madeira Education Center.
