Survivors of suicide to gather

DORSET >> As anyone who has experienced it knows, grieving the loss of a loved one is terribly difficult. When that loss is the result of a suicide, the grieving process takes on a unique set of additional challenges due to the stigma that envelopes mental illness and suicide. If you have been affected by suicide in your life, join us at the Long Trail School on Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. for International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. It is the one day a year when people who are affected by suicide loss gather around the world at events in their local communities for support, information, and empowerment.

This year, Long Trail School is hosting a program that will feature three breakout sessions:

- A discussion/support group session led by Loree Zeif, LICSW

- A yoga session with Jo from Heart of the Village Yoga

- A meditation session with an explanation and demonstration of the benefits of Reiki with Kathy from Honor Wellness.

We will also feature a screening of Family Journeys: "Healing and Hope after a Suicide," a new documentary produced by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention that traces the ripple effect of a suicide through families and communities, and explores the challenges we face as we cope and heal.
