Support for John Matala appreciated

To the Editor:

The people of Manchester are very thankful for what John Matala did in shutting off the gas valve to the tank in Manchester Center on Nov. 12, 2015. John was severely burned on both arms, legs, stomach, face and neck. He was taken to Fletcher Allen's burn unit in Burlington, Vt. He remained there for approximately one month. Since released from Fletcher Allen, he has had to return every two weeks for treatment and exams. John lives in the Cambridge, N.Y. area and has a wife and two children, ages three years

and five years, with a third child expected in April.

John is recovering slowly but surely. Skin grafts take time and he must be careful to avoid infection. Sylvia Jolivette organized a grass root community fund raiser to ease the financial situation and show our appreciation. She had the help and support of the following businesses: Maple Fields, VFW, Eagles, Kilburn's Store, Aubouchon's, Mrs. Murphy's, Manchester Powerhouse, Fire Fly, and Northshire Bookstore. The total amount collected from these businesses was $1,336. Money received by the website totaled $17,095. Thanks everyone!

At this time, John's recovery is going great and he and his family want to thank the Manchester community for their generous financial support which is very much appreciated.
