Superintendent Dan French to depart supervisory union

SUNDERLAND >> Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union Superintendent Dan French announced today he will be leaving the BRSU at the end of his current contract which expires on June 30, 2016, according to a press statement released Friday, Dec. 11. Dr. French has been planning to transition back into teaching and recently accepted the position of Coordinator of the School Leadership Program at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.

Dr. French was hired as the Superintendent of the BRSU in 2007 after serving as a superintendent and principal in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom for 10 years. In 2009, Dr. French was named Vermont Superintendent of the Year. He also served as President of the Vermont Superintendents Association from 2010–2012. Under his leadership, BRSU districts developed a systems approach to personalizing student learning and achieved significant improvements in operational and governance effectiveness.

"Dan French has had a major impact on the BRSU, on each of our Schools and on each of our communities," said Jim Salsgiver, Chair of the BRSU board. "Dan has been a true leader - helping build a common vision of where we need to take education for the benefit of our students. Dan will certainly be missed, but the educational system he has helped us to build should put the BRSU in a good position for continued success. We wish him the best with his future plans and thank him for his service to our communities."
