Summer SAT 'boot camp' set

MANCHESTER >> Stratton Mountain School English teacher, Mary Mangiacotti, and Maple Street School Math Department Head, Joy Stewart, will run two summer SAT Prep camps at Maple Street School to prepare rising juniors and seniors for the 2016 fall and 2017 spring SAT.

The first course will consist of 30 hours, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following five Sundays: June 5, June 12, June 26, July 10, and July 17. The cost will be $425, including books.

The second course will consist of a 28-hour course – Monday-Thursday, June 20-23 and Tuesday-Thursday, July 5-7, from 4-8 p.m. The cost will be $400, including books.

Trained as SAT and ACT tutors at A List Education in New York City, Joy and Mary help students feel confident preparing for the college entrance exams.

"For many students, the SAT or ACT is a daunting concept," Stewart explains. "A big part of our success lies in the way Mary and I work as a team to give kids strategies for each section of the test. Whether math or evidence-based reading and writing, having a plan of attack can make all the difference. We provide the plan."

Since the College Board has revamped the SAT by changing what is tested, how it is tested, and how it is scored, there has been some anxiety about the new SAT, which was taken by high school students across the country for the first time on March 5.

Both teachers emphasize that conquering this type of test is feeling prepared by putting in the time and practice.

Groups will be limited to six students per teacher. For more information about the course or about either of the tests, contact Joy Stewart at or
