Students take part in fitness competition

BURLINGTON - Arlington students in grades 6-8 participated in the annual Middle School Fitness Competition sponsored by The Vermont Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and held at the University of Vermont Patrick Field House.

Each participating school sent four teams of six athletes who competed in four events: one-mile run, back-saver sit and reach, curl-ups and push-ups.

To participate at UVM, Arlington students had to earn qualifying times and points through a school-based competition organized by AMHS Physical Education teacher Ashley Hoyt who was pleased with her teams' performance.

"This is the second year our students participated at UVM, and it was a good experience for them. Most of the student-athletes are from large Burlington-area schools, so it's great for our students to have a chance to compete against those teams," Hoyt said.

Arlington students who competed in the Middle School Competition in Burlington are Tess Belnap, Colleen Blomberg, Sienna Brosemer, Carolyn Crawford, Bailey Cross, Jaden Cross, Christian Dresser, Cullen Granger, Xandria Hoyt, Jamie Keel, Keyshawn King, Haley Mattison, Brian Morse, Kyle Naaktgeboren, Lane Nolan, Joey Price, Matthew Ritchie, Gracie Smith, Lily Spencer, Chandler Stannard, Mikey Stroffoleno, Kaleigh Ward, Lilah Ward, and Kolby Wilkins.

Arlington student-coaches who assisted the teams are Riley Lane, Darren Lehnert, Austin Morse, and Whitney Walsh.
