SMS Winter Ball to be held Jan. 25

STRATTON MOUNTAIN - The Stratton Mountain School Winter Ball will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, in the Burtscher Fieldhouse. The theme this year is "Dreams of Gold" to celebrate the more than 35 Olympians who have attended SMS over the past 40 years.

This year, for the Sochi Olympics, SMS expects seven or eight alumni to be named to the Olympic Team, following final qualification events.

Last year, the SMS Winter Ball raised $120,000 toward the SMS Scholarship Fund. More than 40 percent of current SMS student athletes receive scholarship funds, and the Winter Ball is the school's largest fundraising event.

This year, guests will be treated to a silent auction featuring more than 75 items, including furniture, home accessories, gift certificates to area restaurants, vacation packages, golf outings, sporting gear and lift tickets. The event also features a live auction, which will offer items including a luxury ski and stay Aspen vacation in a slopeside four-bedroom condo, donated by the Dreimanns, a steel and diamond ring from Von Bargen's Jewelers, a long weekend at a Connecticut mansion from the Shaws, Madison Square Garden box tickets for 12 from the O'Haras, a private plane charter for four from the Henry/Borg family, a week's stay at the Whistler Four Seasons by the Davis family, and a rustic timber trestle table by Rob Wadsworth and Vermont Barns.

For tickets, contact Wendy Schriebl at (802) 856-1101.
