Smokey house names new executive director
Pyles comes to Smokey House Center from Unity College in Maine where he served as the sustainability director since 2009. Prior to that he led service and sustainability programming at Green Mountain College while living at Smokey House Center with his wife Laura, an educator there from 2005 to 2009.
"We undertook an exhaustive national search for a person to lead Smokey House Center. Jesse's diverse background in education and strength in partnership management clearly stood out." said Board president Paul Beaulieu.
"I'm thrilled to be back at Smokey House," Pyles said. "This really is my dream job."
Pyles has a background in environmental studies and environmental education and is a senior fellow in the national Environmental Leadership Program, a network of professionals supporting leadership development and diversity in the environmental and sustainability fields.
Smokey House Center encompasses more than 5,000 acres of mostly conserved forest and farmland. Its fundamental purpose is to maintain a working landscape that promotes sustainable agricultural and forestry practices while engaging people in meaningful ways.
