Ski for Heat plans concert

MANCHESTER >> Even though the autumn has been mild, plans to help neighbors who will struggle to keep warm this winter are already in place. First on the calendar, "Downtown" Bob Stannard & Those Dangerous Bluesmen will once more be providing a great evening of entertainment in support of Ski for Heat, the annual campaign to raise funds for local families and individuals in need of heating fuel assistance. The "Hot Blues for Cold Nights" concert will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 7 p.m. at the Eagles Club on Routes 11/30 in Manchester.

"This concert & dance party is definitely back by popular demand! People are calling this 'the best night out of the winter,'" said Ski for Heat event founder Martha Robertson. "This amazingly accomplished group of musician — who have played with or opened for some of the great names in the music industry around the world — give an incredible performance. This isn't down-and-out blues, it's get-out-of-your-chair-and-dance-for-heat blues! These guys are the best; it is so obvious that they get together for this concert because they want to help Ski for Heat, and also because they have such a good time doing it." Tyler Electric & Security, Inc. of Dorset, is again the presenting sponsor for this concert.

The on-snow part of Ski for Heat is on Sunday, Jan. 31, and there is something for every winter sports enthusiast, of all ages and abilities. Wild Wings Ski Touring Center in Peru, the "original" Ski for Heat site, continue its role as host of the x-c skiing and snowshoeing event. "Chuck and Tracy Black, owners, generously open their facility to us. They make it easy and fun for everyone to take part," said Robertson. "We are delighted to have them be part of the Ski for Heat family!"

For those who want to alpine ski or ride, Bromley Mountain, also in Peru, is offering a specially priced $40 all-day, all-lift ticket to participants and then is making a donation to Ski for Heat. Enjoy a day on Vermont's "sun mountain" while helping a good cause! Mark your calendar now for what has become a popular annual winter event, and check our website for details.

Clark's Quality Foods in Londonderry is the title sponsor for Ski for Heat. "We are thrilled and honored to have them with us again this year. They are so community-minded and have been wonderfully supportive of Ski for Heat since it first started," said Robertson.

The suggested concert donation is $20; however people are asked to make a donation at whatever level is comfortable for them. "If you just filled your tanks with oil, and have no extra money to spend, you are welcome to join us—just thank Bob and the band for all they do!"
