Shult to wed Newton

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virg. - Mr. and Mrs. Brian D. Shult, formerly of Manchester, Vt., announce the engagement of their daughter Arla Burnley Shult to Mr. Mark Hampton Newton, both of Charlottesville.

Arla Shult, who grew up in Manchester, is a graduate of Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn. and Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. After graduating, she served in the U.S. Army, studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., and became an interrogator in Military Intellegence at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

She now works for the Charlottesville Police Department. Newton is the son of David and Robin Newton of Richmond Virg. A graduate of Christopher Newport University, he received a Master of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. He works for The Daily Progress newspaper in Charlottesville as its copy desk chief. A date has not yet been set for the wedding.
