Shooting incident at Bennington Police Stattion

BENNINGTON -- Vermont State Police responded to a shooting in the lobby of the Bennington Police Department, 118 South St., at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigation of the incident is ongoing.

According to a news release issued at 11:30 p.m. by Vermont State Police Public Information Officer Stephanie Dasaro, one subject sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to Albany, N.Y., by helicopter for medical treatment. No one else was injured in this incident.

The front door of the Bennington Police Department was blocked with yellow tape and guarded by a Vermont State Trooper following the incident. At the request of Bennington Police, detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the station to investigate the incident.

According to Dasaro, the Bennington County State's Attorney will be working closely with detectives during the investigation. The names of the involved parties and officer were not released.

Just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, a Vermont State Police crime scene investigation vehicle arrived at Bennington Police Station. Members of the Crime Scene Search Team will process the scene, per the release.

Initial scanner reports made mention of both a stabbing and a shooting, before the scanners went quiet.

Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette declined to comment Tuesday.

State police said the medical status of the injured party was not available at the time of the release. They will make public that information when it is available.
