Shanghai quartet to give master class

MANCHESTER - In town to play on Manchester Music Festival's July 17 concert, the renowned Shanghai Quartet will also be on hand to give a chamber music master class on Wednesday, July 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Riley Center for the Arts at Burr and Burton Academy.

The Shanghai Quartet celebrated their 30th Anniversary in 2013, with their performances described by the Washington Post as "wonderfully ferocious and illuminating." A master class is a look behind the scenes at to how music is made. Two of Manchester Music Festival's (MMF) resident Young Artist ensembles with perform for the Shanghai, who will then offer insight as to how the performance might be made even better. Discussion, debate and even the occasional argument may spill forth in the process of working out what is just right for the music.

Admission is open seating for a suggested donation of $10 at the door to benefit MMF's Young Artist Program. For more information call (802) 362-1956.
