Sandgate artists' work to go on display
MANCHESTER >> The Gallery at Equinox Village will present an exhibit of art by Rachel Barlow titled "Spring Fling" from Feb. 18 through March 14. The Exhibit Opening, scheduled for Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m., is free and open to the public and will feature light refreshments and music.
Rachel is an artist, cartoonist, and writer living in Sandgate, Vermont. Mostly self-taught as a sketch artist and illustrator, she recently discovered watercolors as a way to add color to her illustrations and cartoons, and now says she is "hopelessly addicted," often painting until two or three in the morning.
"I am a work-at-home mom, and my job and kids keep my life focused at home most of the time," says Rachel. "When we first moved to Vermont, a friend told me to never lose sight of the mountains, and I have held on to that. But I also see the other elements of daily life, like the kitchen sink, the wood stove and the garden. I think that is why I have found my way to painting the lofty mountains but also the not-so-lofty subjects that play out in their shadows."
Rachel was a featured artist at Bedlam Farm during their open house in October 2015, and her work is currently on display at the Southern Vermont Art Center as well as at the Petersburgh Library in Petersburgh, New York. In April she will show her work at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington, Vermont.
