Roundup: Bulldogs downed in opener

MIDDLEBURY -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls lacrosse team dropped a tight contest in its first game of the season, falling to Middlebury 13-12.

After Middlebury took a 9-5 lead going into halftime, the Bulldogs came out in the second half and tied the game at 10-10 on an Aggie Bisselle goal, but the Tigers responded with three goals to take a 13-10 lead and held on the rest of the way.

Hayley Sabol led the Bulldogs with five goals and an assist, while Morgan Bazyk added three goals, Katy Jones scored two and Lucy Bisselle added another. Katie Holmes and Emily Robinson each had four for Middlebury.

BBA falls to 0-1 and returns to action on Friday at home against South Burlington.

Storm football tryouts

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm football team will be hosting open tryouts will be on April 15 at the Veterans Home practice field, located at 325 North Street in Bennington.

Bennington Road Race

BENNINGTON -- The 26th annual Steve Zemianek Bennington Road Race will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at the Park McCullough house in North Bennington.

This year's event is dedicated to the memory of local educator and marathon runner Gail Harwood. The race is produced and directed by the Batten Kill Valley Runners.

All net proceeds will be donated to the Mount Anthony Union High School Zemianek scholarship fund.

The kids race will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the 3.8K and 10K races will start at 10 a.m.

Registration is $15 in advance and $20 after May 1.

Runners can register online at Paper registration is available at Wills Insurance, Bennington Recreation Center, Off the Wall, Anytime Fitness, Bennington Sports Center and all schools in Bennington and North Bennington.
