Roundup: BBA tennis teams continue to roll

BRATTLEBORO - The Burr and Burton Academy boys tennis team continued their winning ways on Friday, defeating Brattleboro 7-0 on the road.

BBA No. 1 singles player Peter Oh defeated the Colonels Lachlan Francis in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). No. 2 singles player Sam Cochrane defeated Brattleboro's Gidpon May 6-0, 6-0. BBA's Noah Wetherald defeated Jake Gartenstein 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles matchup. Coley Stillman defeated the Colonels Spencer Butter in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) and the Bulldogs Justin Tegen defeated Brattleboro's Nick Hallock 6-1, 6-3 in No. 5 singles.

The Bulldogs No. 1 doubles team of Nick Fayette and Justin Walla defeated Nick Mateo and Ahlgren Valleyo 6-1, 6-0 and their No. 2 doubles team of Cam Marcellus and Christain Webb won by forfeit.

BBA moves to 3-0 with the win and will take on Fair Haven at home on Monday beginning at 4:30 p.m. The match will be held at the Dana Thompson Rec Park.

Girls top Brattleboro

MANCHESTER - The Burr and Burton Academy girls tennis continued to roll on Friday, defeating Brattleboro 6-1 at home.

BBA's No. 1 singles player Maddy Pagnucco defeated Katie Tsukamoto 6-1, 6-0. No. 2 singles player Jordan Harmon defeated the Colonels Jenn Hutton in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

In the No. 3 singles matchup Gabby Vella defeated Haley Marcil 6-1, 6-4. Stella Oh topped Emily Tanis 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match and Eliza Breed defeated the Colonels Kimberly Bau by the same score in the No. 5 singles match.

In doubles, the Bulldogs No. 2 doubles team of Haley McGrath and Nerina Muminovic defeated Greta Larson and Danielle Looman 6-3, 6-3.

Brattleboro's lone win in the matchup came in the No. 1 doubles match when Jaida Henry and Aliza Racine defeated Julia Campanella and Megan Knight 6-4, 6-4.

The team moves to 3-0 with the win. They will be on the road on Monday to take on Otter Valley Union High School. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.

Bulldogs fall on diamond

RANDOLPH -- Noah Rizio smacked an inside-the-park grand slam for the Burr and Burton Academy baseball team on Friday against Randolph, but it was not enough as the Ghosts pulled out a 10-5 win over the Bulldogs.

Randolph opened up a 4-1 lead after four innings of play, and extended the lead to 8-1 entering the fifth inning when Rizio hit the homer. But the punch as all BBA could get at the plate.

Adam Maitland started for BBA and Jon Iris came on in relief.

BBA falls to 2-3 and returns to action on Monday at home against Otter Valley.

BBA boys lax wins

SAXTONS RIVER -- In the battle of the Academy's, Burr and Burton edged out Vermont 18-14.Tom Morgantini led the way with five goals in the game, while Max Pagnucco and Ben Alexopoulos each added four goals and Tyeshawn Gadson added two. Morgantini also had four assists and Alexopoulos added two helpers in the win.

Mike Sztorc had 10 saves for BBA in net.

BBA moves to 1-2 on the year and return to action on Tuesday against Rutland.
