Roundup: BBA girls tennis wins
Maddy Pagnucco topped Caitlin Hanley 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 1 singles, Jordan Harmon defeated Kristen Switzer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Irene Matas defeated Melanie Hubbard 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Gabby Vella defeated Megan Nadler 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. The No. 5 match between Stella Oh and Sarah Nadler was not played due to rain.
In doubles action, the BBA duo of Eliza Breed and Rosalyn Liu lost to Kelsey Bullock and Amber Thomas 6-7, 0-6 and Silvia Velasco and Maria De Pablo topped Rutland's Christina Lovett and Dana Stewart 6-4, 6-3.
BBA is now 2-0 on the year and return to action on Friday against Brattleboro.
Bulldogs top Rutland
The Burr and Burton Academy boys tennis team won their second match of the season on Wednesday against Rutland 6-1.
BBA's No. 1 singles player, Peter Oh, defeated the Raiders' Peter Gibbs in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
In No. 2 singles the Bulldog's Sam Cochrane defeated Patrick Salisbury-Jenning in a super tiebreaker 10-6. Cochrane lost the first set 4-6 before coming back to take the second set 6-4.
BBA's No. 3 singles player Noah Wetherald won the first set of his match against Rutland's Jake Piatek in a tiebreak (7-5) before going on to win the second set 6-1.
Justin Tegen - the Bulldogs' No. 5 singles player - won 10-4 in a super tiebreaker over the Raiders' Dalton Eckhart. Tegen took the first set 6-4, but Eckhart battled back to win the second set 6-1 and force the super tiebreaker.
Rutland's Alvaro Lopez won the No. 4 singles match in straight sets over BBA's Coley Stillman 6-3, 6-1.
Burr and Burton's No. 1 doubles team of Conor Harrington and Nick Fayette defeated Patrick O'Rourke and Jack Foley in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) and the No. 2 doubles team of Justin Walla and Christian Webb topped Julian Marcell and Henry Prouty 6-2, 6-2.
The Bulldogs move to 2-0 on the season while the Raiders fall to 2-1.
BBA will be on the road Friday to take on Brattleboro. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
